So far, four finalists have been selected. These exquisite specimens will join three other animals in Wednesday night’s finals, with one outstanding canine taking home the Best of Show award.
Now, onto the dog! The WKC recognizes 211 different breeds of dogs, and the competition is focused on finding the dog that best meets their breed standards (so all lower abdomens are scrutinized).The show’s finalists all represent the best Seven different dog breeds
: Herding, hunting, non-sporting, terrier, toy and work. While the four dogs already preparing for the finals may vary in size, there are two advantages that tie them together: they are all very good at being their type, and they all have great names.
Bloodhounds are reportedly “one of the oldest dog breeds that hunt by scent” Westminster Kennel Club Classification
. The discovery of a trained hound can even be used in court! The American Kennel Club describes the ideal hound expression as “noble and dignified, and characterized by gravitas, intelligence, and strength.” Trumpet has done it.
Non-Sporting Group: Winston (French Bulldog)
Ah, Winston. A classic French bulldog name for a classic guy. According to WKC
, the French don’t have many useful skills. But they make up for it by being cute. “Most French Bulldogs excel at being friendly, loving clowns whose raison d’être is adored,” says their breed description. Winston’s little smiling face really got him a long way. (Also, one of Winston’s bosses is an NFL defensive lineman

Toy Group: Hollywood (in Maltese)
Hollywood looks like she thinks she’s better than everyone else, and she’s right. Toy dogs were bred for human companionship and luxury. WKC Maltese Breed Description
Said they have been popular pets among royals for centuries because of their “elegance and beauty”. Hollywood, she’s a star, beating out several other toy beauties, including Porsche, Russia’s first toy dog
into the semi-finals.
Herd: River (German Shepherd)
German Shepherds are a favorite among herding groups, and it’s easy to see why. Not only are they very smart and enthusiastic, but they can be trained for law enforcement and military work. but, WKC pointed out
They are also family friendly and make great service dogs. A German Shepherd named Rumor won the WKC’s Best of Show award in 2017. Can River make the same mistake?
Finalists from the Hound, Hunt and Work groups will be determined Wednesday night. But only one of the last seven can be a top dog!
