Virginia cancels Virginia Tech game after football player’s death

Virginia canceled Saturday’s scheduled game against rival Virginia Tech after three football players were killed on campus a week earlier.

The university made the announcement Monday night, a day after a nearly two-hour memorial service was held in honor of LaVell Davis Jr., Devon Chandler and DeShaun Perry . The three were shot after a field trip to Washington to see a show. Two others were injured.

Former Virginia football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. faces three counts of second-degree murder and other charges.

Virginia also canceled last weekend’s game against No. 23 Coastal Carolina.
