WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republicans in Texas have officially rejected President Joe Biden’s 2020 election as illegal, and voted at a statewide convention that ends this weekend in a statewide convention that will denounce gays and lesbians. Ends on party platforms for “abnormal lifestyle choices”.
The party’s embrace of unfounded electoral fraud allegations in a bedrock Republican state came as a bipartisan congressional committee seeks to definitively and publicly debunk the false idea that Biden did not win the election.
Biden has 7 million more votes than rival Donald Trump. Biden also received 306 votes in the Electoral College, more than the 270 needed to win.
The congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol is building a case that Trump’s attempts to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election — including denying he lost — constituted an illegal hold on power conspiracy.
Trump, the 45th president of the United States, has denied any wrongdoing.
“We reject the certified results of the 2020 presidential election, and we believe that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not legitimately elected by the American people,” the Texas party said in a resolution, which Resolution is in its conventions.
Texas is a major player in U.S. national politics, with 38 electoral votes, second only to California. Voters there have supported the Republican president for the past four years.
The White House had no comment.
About two-thirds of Republicans believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. State and federal judges have rejected more than 50 election lawsuits brought by Trump and his allies, while reviews and audits have found no evidence of widespread fraud.
Platforms attack gay ‘choice’

“Homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice,” it wrote, a statement not in the 2020 platform https://texasgop.org/platform.
A party spokesman said votes on the provision were being counted and certified following the biennial Conference of States Parties.
The Houston Log Cabin Republican, who represents LGBT conservatives, said it was once again denied a request for a booth at this week’s party convention, as it has at past conventions. The group called the actions of the Texas Republican Convention “not only narrow-minded, but politically short-sighted.”
However, Log Cabin Republican managing director Charles Moran told Reuters the group had seen no “evidence” of similar bans or exclusionary language being used in other state Republican conventions.
“If we’re more inclusive than we have been in the past,” he said, noting that the 2020 Republican presidential race has an official pride coalition, and that the Republican party’s gay vote doubled between 2016 and 2020. “President Trump is the most gay Republican we’ve ever had,” he added.
