Swimming helps Eddie Hall stay ahead of competition

How important are live fitness events like this to you?

They are very important. Obviously, yes, the online presence is great, but I think the one-on-one interaction is really important, connecting with people. Covid, and some kind of lockdown has made people really disconnected; a little bit of a one-to-one connection. You see all these guys on your screen, on bodybuilding shows, on TV, on strongmen, but I think one-on-one is what these guys want, and it’s nice to give back a little bit, you know, do the photo, do the autograph. I remember going to these events and meetings (people I looked up to) when I was a teenager. They really inspire you, and those little moments meeting your heroes can make a big difference.

When it comes to social media, we love your Instagram and we love watching you swim, it’s part of your story that people may not know. What is your swimming background?

I think I won the British National from 11 to 13 – that was a long time ago, I don’t remember. I set some British records, but yeah, I’m in a world-class potential squad, basically like the GB Junior Olympic team, and that’s a big deal. I was in the pool when everyone else was at school studying for their GCSEs. You know, on most days, two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. So yeah, as a kid, it was a really tough thing, but I think it taught me a lot of self-discipline and how you put it in what you get. I think it’s a great blueprint for the rest of my life.

Over the past few years, you have lost weight. Swimming is great for this. Have you improved the level of aerobic activity you do?

Cardio has become a bit more A staple in my daily work. Walking is the main thing, you know, [I put a] Weighted vest; 20, 30 kg. I just walked a mile and a half with my dog, most mornings, at a good pace,

This tends to keep me healthy. Heart rate 140 seconds, 150 seconds in 15 to 20 minutes, for me, that’s all you need to do to get your heart in a good rhythm every day, but yeah, weightlifting is definitely my #1 staple, and Probably always will be. You know, I like to stay in shape, but I also like to stay in shape, which is important.

What was your calorie intake at the peak of your strongman career compared to where you are now?

I mean, when I was the strongest man in the world, I was 433 or 434 pounds by American standards. So, you know, I’m a giant. And, I actually did a study (in 2016) at the University (Staffordshire) where I was sitting in a chair and wearing all these respirators and they were able to measure the consumption of oxygen, carbon dioxide, they could calculate Find out how you burn a lot of calories just by sitting in a chair. They put me in a chair and I would burn 5,000 calories for 12 hours.So, you have to think about how many calories do I need to not only fuel it, but also [training] Meeting. You know, I exercise a lot and train a lot, two or three times a day, so you’re talking about 10,000 to 12,000 (calories) at my peak and more 12,000 on most days. Today, it’s more like 4,000 to 6,000. So, almost halved, but I’m not half the weight. I guess it’s this sheer mass that determines how many calories are in and out.

Your wife, Alexandra, will help you meet those high-calorie needs. What techniques have you all used?

I mean, food is a chore. When you’re a strongman, food is definitely a chore. You know, at some point you don’t like your food.so it is [all about] A healthy diet, you’re talking about your regular porridge, steak, rice, and chicken for dinner, and veggies, same for dinner and dinner, but I guess for the strong man [about] Add those little calories, so if you have chicken curry with rice, you know, you slice a piece of bacon in it to add a thousand calories. For breakfast, you’ll be like a smoothie, you won’t make it with water, you’ll make it with ice cream. Then for dessert, lunch and dinner you’ll have half house cheesecake for dessert and half house cheesecake for dinner. You know, cheesecake alone has 3,000 to 4,000 calories, so you have healthy food, but you also have to add junk for energy and energy.

What’s next for Eddie Hall?

i want to go back to mine YouTube channel And start doing more fun things there because I feel like that’s my bread and butter. Then, in sports, I just took a step back. I just go with the flow. So far I don’t have any contracts and I don’t have any offers. You know, I didn’t have to go and fight Joe Bloggs, it had to be someone with a big name, it had to be someone who was actually there, or not worth it in my opinion.

But you are clearly prepared.

Yes, I mean I will keep going. So, I mean I’m just waiting for another opportunity, but until then, I’m booking TV shows and I’m going to get back into the YouTube business and be healthy and active. This is my main goal now.
