The tourism organization in Portoroz, a summer resort on Slovenia’s Adriatic coast, has decided to use non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to promote the destination. The project represents the digital component of this year’s campaign to attract visitors to the region.
Tourists collect NFTs and win prizes in Portoroz
Shortly after the Slovenian Tourism Board (set top box) released the “sLOVEnia NFT” last month, and Portorož in the southwestern city of Piran has now become the first resort in the country to have its own non-fungible token. According to local media, the main goal of the initiative is to present the two coastal towns as progressive, digital and sustainable destinations.
“The door to the virtual world is opening, which will be a new market for generations to come,” said Alexander Valentin, director of the Portoroz Tourism Association, in a speech dedicated to innovation in Portoroz .
New “destination NFTs” aim to win visitor loyalty. As guests perform three activities, they will be able to collect three tokens from three different collections: participating in prize games, subscribing to the newsletter, and sharing stickers on Instagram with the resort’s @portorozpiran account. There are 100 NFTs in each collection.
On April 20, Slovenia launched a campaign under the banner “We are here” in the country and six other countries (Italy, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia). It aims to expand the country’s presence as a tourist destination to more markets. According to the Primorske Novice news outlet, nine travel service providers are participating and more are expected.
In addition to entering the crypto world through the NFT program, Portorož and Piran have also increased their promotional activities on social media. The publication revealed that the towns recently joined short-video platform Tiktok.
