The Socios company is a blockchain project that allows fans to become “superfans” by allowing fans to influence “club-specific decisions, trade digital items, and obtain VIP experiences.” Socios stated that the current “team-based fan engagement elements and activations” related to the Cavaliers are still under review. However, Socios will use the Cavaliers’ global asset platform to increase brand awareness.
For example, in the upcoming 2021-22 NBA season, the Socios.com logo will appear on the Cavaliers training jersey, just below the player number. Socios can also provide brand image in venues with broadcast visible LED sideboard signs. Socios said the company is the first partner for the Cavaliers to “take advantage of this unique brand opportunity.”
Cavaliers Chief Information Officer Mike Conley said: “This partnership with Socios.com is part of our ongoing exploration of blockchain technology and how to use it in our business to develop and increase fan engagement. This is an important step forward.” He added: “We share our shared passion and drive for innovation with Socios.com, and we are excited about the opportunities that this relationship brings as it continues to evolve into the future.”
The news about the partnership between Socios and the Cavaliers was released after the recent collaboration announcement Between Socios and the Boston Celtics. Socios revealed the partnership with the Boston Basketball Team in the first week of July. The collaboration with the Celtics also gave Socios marketing rights, such as becoming a display partner for the Celtics website.
The transaction between the Cavaliers and Socios is part of the company’s expansion in the United States. The announcement emphasized that Socios plans to increase the company’s business in Europe, Asia and South America in order to cooperate with “the world’s leading sports industry.”
