JERUSALEM (AP)-The Israeli military announced that a naval helicopter crashed near the northern city of Haifa on the Mediterranean coast of Israel on Monday night, killing two Israeli pilots.
A training flight was in progress when the helicopter crashed. The military said earlier on Tuesday that the third crew member, an air observer, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. “After extensive recovery efforts, two pilots were declared dead.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The commander of the Israeli Air Force has ordered the immediate suspension of all training flights and the use of helicopters from the same dead plane.
The pilot’s family members have been notified. The statement said: “The IDF expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and will continue to support them.”
