Maryland beats Michigan 15-8 in Big Ten tournament

Omaha, Nebraska — Matt Frey makes three point four laps, Riley Bertram had four hits Fifth-seeded Michigan State defeated top-seeded Maryland 15-8 in the Big Ten Championship on Friday night.

It was the second straight game for the Wolverines (30-25) against the winners of the Iowa-Penn State game Saturday night. Maryland (45-11) broke an 11-game winning streak against Indiana in a losing game earlier Saturday.

Frey had an RBI single and Bertram hit a two-run double in four games that gave Michigan a 5-2 lead after three innings.

The Terrapins had two points at the top of the fourth quarter, but Frye had a two and Bertram had a scoring single to end a five-point response with a 10-4 lead.

Maryland scored three in the fifth to finish 10-8 in seven, but ended with five in the seventh.Tito Flores homer to start it Clark Elliott hits a two-run homer.

Willie Weiss (3-2), fourth of five pitchers, won.

Troy Schleeffler had 3 hits and 3 RBIs, and Maryland homer Ryan Ramsey gave up 10, won 6, and suffered his first loss in 11 decisions.
