“I trust scouting reports. I stick to my approach,” Bannon said. “I got a middle position and hit a good swing on it. It was a fastball in the middle.”
Bannon went 1 for 4 with strikeouts and two outs. As Xavier’s 2017 Big East Player of the Year, he was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eighth round of the 2017 amateur draft and traded to Baltimore in July 2018 in a deal that brought Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“I really felt like I didn’t get a foothold until around the fifth inning,” Bannon said. “After a few hits, that’s when it really sank into where I was. It felt weird to be on the field early in the game. It was awesome. It was definitely a good thing to be here. Cool in the locker room. “

Albert Pujols, who started at first base against Baltimore, played his 2,987th inning, passing Barry Bonds for 10th. Pujols went 0-for-1 with three hits to tie for 10th with Eddie Collins for 3,313 hits.

cardinal: RHP Jordan Hicks (1-2, 3.78) will start Friday’s series opener against Francisco. Hicks has played no more than 4 1/3 innings in six games this season.
