Israeli airstrike in Syria kills three soldiers: state media | news

Recent Israeli attacks have targeted around the capital Damascus and the southern coastal province of Tartus.

Three soldiers were killed and three wounded in an Israeli airstrike in Syria, the latest attack on the war-torn country.

State media said air defenses were facing Israeli bombing attacks on targets near the Syrian coastal province of Tartus.

“The aggression resulted in the death of three soldiers and the wounding of three others,” Syria’s official news agency SANA said, citing an unnamed military source.

Since the outbreak of the civil war Syria in 2011Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes inside the country, targeting government positions as well as Iranian-backed allied and Hezbollah fighters.

War monitors at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also gave the same number of casualties from airstrikes near an air defense base in Tartus province, where Iranian-backed groups are active.

The target site in Tartus was eight kilometers (five miles) from the Russian base, said the monitor, who has an extensive network of resources in Syria.

It said ambulances had arrived at the scene of the strike in Tartus.

In early July, the Syrian Defense Ministry said two civilians were injured in an Israeli attack from the Mediterranean Sea near the town of Hamadiya, south of the town of Tartus.

Two Israeli civilians were wounded on Friday near the occupied Golan Heights in southern Syria, state media reported.
