Israel investigates death of Palestinian boy shot by army

Jerusalem (Associated Press)-The Israeli military said it had launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy. Local residents said the boy was shot and killed by the army while traveling in a car with his father in the southern West Bank. .

The military said in a statement that the senior commander and gendarmerie responsible for investigating suspected military misconduct are investigating Wednesday’s incident.

The shooting occurred in the town of Beit Umar near Hebron.

The military stated that the soldiers opened fire on a car that did not stop at the checkpoint after firing a warning shot.

The mayor of Beit Ummar, Nasri Sabarneh, said that Moayad al-Alami, a resident of the village, was driving around with his son and daughter and parked in a shop.

The military stated that they tried to stop the car, but when the car did not respond, they opened fire on the car and hit the boy Mohammed al-Alami in the chest. The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the boy’s death.
