He is 46 years old.
The family said: “We are sad to share the news that the prolific drummer, musician, and artist Joey Jordison passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021. “Joy’s death is for us. Left an empty heart and indescribable sadness. “
Jordison used to be the drummer for Slipknot, and he helped create it in 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa.
In 1999, the masked band broke into the music world with an album of the same name.
They have achieved great success, including selling millions of records worldwide and establishing the Knotfest festival in 2012.
Some of their violent lyrics have also caused controversy. The founding bassist Paul Gray took a drug overdose at the age of 38.
In 2013, Jordison and the band announced their parting ways.
Three years later, the musician revealed to Metal Hammer that he had been diagnosed with a rare neurological disease and stated that he was injured after the band fired him via email.
He also said that some people thought his illness might be related to drug abuse, which made him angry, but he said that he loves his band members and is willing to rejoin them.
Jordison also launched other bands Scar the Martyr, Vimic and Sinsaenum.
In a family statement released on Tuesday, they wrote: “To those who know Joey, understand his wit, gentle personality, huge heart, and his love for family and music.”
The family will have a private funeral.
