Delonte West After a video of him begging on the street went viral last week, he said there was nothing to worry about… insisting he was doing well and was actively looking for work.
remember, We broke the news In February, the former NBA guard, who has publicly battled mental health and addiction issues, got back on track, training to become a Big Three.
But last week, a fan shared a video on social media showing West looking disheveled and begging on the streets of Virginia… which caught many off guard.
So when Image Direct caught up with the 38-year-old this week, they asked Delonte how he was doing and why he was on the street asking for money.
“I have kids. I’m in between jobs. People can help me as much as possible, but you know, as a man, I have to do what I have to do for my kids.”
As for the Big Three, West said there are a lot of talented players out there, and he understands why he didn’t make the cut…but he’s grateful for the opportunity.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity,” West said. “I’ll be there next season. I’ll be there to support the players.”
Despite a series of rough breaks, the 8-year NBA vet doesn’t seem to let some tough times discourage him… He says he’ll keep going and hopes to be part of the NBA’s coaching staff soon.
“I’m always involved in the games I love. Last year, I was a scout for the Dallas Mavericks, and the first three years I was an NBA scout for the Boston Celtics.”
West added, “I’m actually looking forward to being a head coach or an assistant coach in the NBA this season, but like I said, this is an industry that a lot of people are involved in and want to continue to be involved in.”
“Pray, luckily, I’ll be discussing it in the upcoming season.”
