To be successful in bodybuilding, it is best to have a trainer or trainer to help you with your workouts at the gym. Even if you’re familiar with the weight room, having an extra pair of eyes or someone with a different expertise can be a big plus. That’s where Chris “Psycho” Lewis can step in.The California native is all too familiar with how to succeed on the big stage, as he witnessed it firsthand at the legendary Gold’s Gym Venice, also known as bodybuilding mecca.
“Chris Cormier, Flex Wheeler and Charles Glass, these guys were there before me, but I’m here not long after the early ’90s,” he said on a recent episode of The Threats podcast Tell Dennis James. While most gyms were energetic and included highly motivated athletes, Lewis explained that the atmosphere at the legendary Gold’s Gym was different at the time.
“That’s what creates the atmosphere of Gold’s Gym. You never know what’s going to happen,” Lewis said. “People will work out just to come to Gold’s Gym to work out.”
Like Charles Glass, Lewis went on to train several top competitors, including 2018 Mr. Olympia Sean Roden. Lewis thinks he’s sneaking away from his construction job to sit under some of the best learning trees in bodybuilding history.
“I’ll sneak away Train with Cormier And Wheeler, assist Charles, do my best…I’ll go to Gold’s with my “three hour” lunch break. That’s the level of excitement at the time. “
Today, Lewis runs his own training company, Psycho Fitness, and his gym, Psycho’s Body Shop. His focus is on helping people make significant improvements for the stage or life in an environment that allows them to be comfortable enough to work.
“It can be a lawyer who needs to lose 80 pounds, or a housewife who wants to get into the bikini (department), but it can also be an Olympian preparing for the biggest show of his life.”
Lewis and James delved more into the Gold’s Gym era, the bodybuilding scene is now compared to the ’90s, and even the presence of DJs in Gold’s and Hot Skins outfits.Subscribe to TMP to watch every episode M&F YouTube Channel.
