Bruce Willis‘ Being open about a medical condition that makes it difficult (or even impossible) to communicate has had a profound effect…people are learning about the disease.
The actor was recently diagnosed with aphasia – a language disorder that affects the ability to understand words and/or speak – a recent survey shows that more and more Americans are now aware of the word, with many Said they first heard about aphasia because of Bruce.
The National Aphasia Society told us…it only had a survey after Bruce announced – they usually waited 4 years between surveys, but changed it after the media covered Bruce – the numbers show Across the country, they find it “appalling”.
Some findings:
– 68% have heard the term “aphasia”…a huge leap from 2020, when only 14% had heard of the condition
– 40% are “aware of aphasia,” meaning they’ve heard the word and can identify it as a speech disorder…a significant increase from 2020, when only 7% were “aware of aphasia” disease”
– There has been a marked decrease in those who believe speech difficulties indicate intellectual disability, from 42% in 2020 to 21% currently.
We were told that about one in five respondents mentioned Bruce’s name when answering a question about the last place they remembered reading or hearing aphasia.
Aphasia has blues Show business suspended …but his celebrity is shining for the situation.
