Brazilian University USP to conduct academic research in Metaverse

USP professor Marcos A. Simplicio Jr. emphasized that this is the first time that USP has obtained a non-fungible token (NFT) through a partnership. The token in question is a rare piece of land in the United States of Mars (USM) metaverse that is being built in partnership with other universities.

“USP is the first university in Latin America to enter into a partnership with USM to support the construction of its metaverse,” Simplicio said.

The partnership, which will initially be with researchers, stems from an existing agreement called the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), which is Sponsored by Ripple.

As Cointelegraph reported, opportunities involving the metaverse were discussed at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting, which ended Thursday. Specifically, the panel titled “Metaverse Possibilitiesexplores how Metaverse technologies can be used to enhance children’s learning. Panel discussions featured Philip Rosedale, co-founder of High Fidelity; Pascal Kaufman, founder of Mindfire Foundation; Peggy Johnson, CEO of Magic Leap ; Hoda AlKhzaimi, Assistant Research Professor, NYU Abu Dhabi, and Edward Lewin, Vice President, The LEGO Group.

“A third of the people who use the internet are young adults and children, so I’d really focus on building from the kids’ perspective, because they’re the users of the future,” Lewin said during the panel discussion.
