We no longer have vaccine supply issues. The only question that remains is whether you are constrained by demand or by logistics. In countries with fewer vaccinations, there is not much demand. Coronavirus will be the 15th leading cause of death in Nigeria – you have HIV, TB, malaria, diarrhoea. So when you say to them, “Hey, number 15,” they’ll say, “Well, how about number one, number two, number three, number four — show me some dead bodies!”
I love articles like, “Hey, if these countries don’t vaccinate themselves, they’re going to mutate and screw us up.” There’s not much science to back this up.
wait, you mean global vaccination Won’t Reduce the chances of more dangerous variants?
What scientific evidence do you have for this? These are not vaccines to stop transmission. Do you have this idea? Vaccines will not reduce the number of cases. Where is the logic? You’ll get fewer variants because…? What exactly is this?
[Levy: OK. Larry Brilliant, an epidemiologist whom Gates cites in his book, says it’s true that with Omicron, the current vaccines did a relatively poor job of preventing transmission. But they still cut the likelihood of getting sick, and they shorten the course of the disease in infected people, giving potential variants less time to emerge. “Anybody who says that vaccinating as many people as possible is not important in preventing variants is making a mistake,” says Brilliant.]
I was struck by the counterattack vaccineIt seems that we are going backwards as a science-based, logic-based society.
I think you are a naive person. How popular was evolution before the pandemic? less than 50%.
[Levy: He’s close. A University of Michigan study of the last 35 years reported that acceptance of evolution became the majority opinion in 2016.]
People didn’t take to the streets or block borders to demonstrate to biologists, as they did with vaccines.
We are not a broad scientific debate society. Are you sure we’re going backwards?
Well, you’ve been the object of criticism for years, but before the pandemic, few people were marching outside and calling for your arrest or execution.
Now I am a focal point. Anthony Fauci and me. There’s some pretty crazy stuff, right up there, and QAnon, Pizzagate, etc. I wouldn’t have expected it. To the point where people don’t want to wear masks, that’s a problem.
Most importantly, we have Ukraine. Aren’t you worried we’re going backwards?
I’d rather be alive today than at some point in the past. I highly recommend it to others. So if you think we’re going backwards, wow.
In some ways, I do think so. We’re not too far apart in age. For some, the years when we grew up and started our business were the golden age of this country.
Would you have wanted to be gay 40 years ago? Then you would rather be a woman than now?
