Australia designates Hezbollah as a “terrorist” organization | News

Australia has been designated Hezbollah, The Shia organization headquartered in Lebanon, supported by Iran, is considered a “terrorist” organization.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the name covers the entire group. The military branch of Hezbollah has been on the list since 2003.

In May, the United States called on governments around the world to take action against Hezbollah.

Australia also classified The Base, a global neo-Nazi organization, as a “terrorist” organization and criminalized its members.

Interior Secretary Karen Andrews said in a statement announcing the new classification: “The government has zero tolerance for violence, and there is no reason—religion or ideology—that can justify the killing of innocent people.”

The ABC said that Australia’s domestic intelligence agencies are increasingly concerned about right-wing extremism and white supremacists, and al-Qaeda members now account for about one-third of its investigations.

The United Kingdom and Canada have added the organization to their “terrorist” lists.

Before the announcement on Wednesday, Australia had already Classification Twenty-six groups are “terrorist” organizations, including ISIL (ISIS), Boko Haram and Abu Sayyaf.
