Arizona Cardinals defensive back Jeff Gladney dies in car crash

DALLAS — NFL Arizona Cardinals defensive back Jeff Gladney was killed in a car crash in Dallas on Monday. He is 25 years old.

Gladney’s death was confirmed by the Cardinals and his agent.

“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Jeff Gladney. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are grieving this huge loss,” the team said.

The accident happened on the service road of the Woodall Rogers Expressway in Dallas, KTVT-TV reported. Another person also died.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department said no one could talk about the crash over the Memorial Day holiday.

Gladney played at TCU before becoming the Minnesota Vikings’ 2020 first-round pick. He played 16 games that year but was released ahead of the 2021 season when he was charged with assaulting a woman.

Gladney was acquitted in March in Dallas County, Texas, before being signed by the Cardinals. He attended team training last week.

“We are praying for family and privacy during this most difficult time,” agent Brian Overstreet said.

The NFL said Gladney’s death was a “tragic loss.”
