Al Jazeera Digital was named Telly Company of the Year at the annual Telly Awards.

Winners will be announced online on May 24. The organizers of the Telly Awards recognize excellence in video and television content across all screens, awarding the awards each year to the broadcaster or online publisher that has won the most gold, silver and bronze medals.

This is the second year in a row that a division within the Al Jazeera media network has won the top award. In 2021, it went to Al Jazeera Arabic (television).

The judges evaluated approximately 11,000 entries from media across Europe, North and South America, and Asia Pacific, including PBS Digital Studios, ViacomCBS, Warner Bros., Sony Music Entertainment, Fast Company and ESPN.

Al Jazeera Digital won 16 gold medals for video content in Arabic and English, covering documentaries, social videos, social news broadcasts, commentators and web series genres.

The Arabic content performed exceptionally well, winning 9 of Digital’s 16 gold medals. News and current affairs videos, social reporting and long-form stories in English and Arabic also won some silver and bronze medals.

Digital Newsroom, an Arabic-language social news platform for news and socially savvy Arab audiences, has won four gold medals and regularly reaches millions of stories on its social channels.

Digital Newsroom won a total of 18 medals, including silver and bronze. AJ Digital’s O2 platform also won four gold medals for its English and Arabic web series decoding (Dahaleez) Hosted by Egyptian-born musician turned Hollywood actor Amr Waked.

The platform also won three silver medals for Shoaib Parliament, a digital conference for Arab youth hosted by influencer Shoaib Rashed.

In the spirit of telling people-centred stories, news and current affairs, the website Arabnet won gold for a short film in its “My Story” series about a syrian boy Collect unexploded ordnance to sell as scrap metal to support your family.

AJ wins dozens of medals

AJ Close Up has won three gold medals for a series of narrative short films about people living at the center of major global issues – from Russia bans youth to stick to ukraine, which captures intimate portraits of Ukrainian IDPs fleeing their homes. Newsfeed, AJ Digital’s social video arm, won three gold medals, including a web series on global defense, Project strengthpresented by Alex Gatopoulos.

Al Jazeera’s immersive storytelling and innovation studio AJ Contrast also won a gold medal for Inaccessible Cities, an interactive website highlighting the struggles women with disabilities face in big cities.

In addition to 16 gold medals, AJ Digital took home 36 silver and 15 bronze medals.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition on behalf of our Arabic and English video teams,” said Digital Executive Director Yaser Bishr. “Despite relentless news cycles and pandemics, they have created a level of wit and creativity that sets the gold standard for video journalism.”

Other divisions of Al Jazeera’s media network also took home the top prize.Al Jazeera’s English-language broadcast has won six gold medals for long-form investigative reporting and programming, including three 101 Easteach with a gold medal witness, listening post and big picture.

The Survey Group (Group I) also won three gold medals for The Man Who Sells Football and a gold medal for its multi-award winning survey All the Prime Minister’s Men.Al Jazeera’s Arabic radio channel also won two gold medals, one for Next Story: The Roots of War another for Palestine 1920Al Jazeera English version, Al Jazeera World.

AJ+ also won gold Straight from Dena Takruri: Regulatory Boundaries.

All content is judged by members of the Telly Awards Jury, which comprises more than 200 industry experts and leading professionals from top production houses, networks and content studios.

For more than 40 years, the Telly Awards have been recognizing outstanding and innovative TV and video content on all screens.

Al Jazeera Digital has won multiple Webby, Amnesty, Gracie, Online News, Drum Online Media and numerous other awards.
