New York (Reuters)-After jurors told media including Reuters that he had been a victim of sexual abuse, her lawyer said on Wednesday that she had been accused of assisting Jeffrey Epstein in the sexual abuse last week. The convicted Gislain Maxwell should accept a new trial.

In a letter to Alison Nathan, the U.S. District Judge of Manhattan who presided over Maxwell’s trial, lawyer Christian Everdell said that Maxwell had “indisputable reasons” for a new trial in order to maintain justice.

Everdell called the matter “a pressing and important issue” because the jury’s disclosure request only revealed his name and middle name Scotty David, “affected the deliberations and persuaded other members of the jury to convict Ms. Maxwell.”

The office of Damian Williams, the US prosecutor who prosecuted Maxwell, declined to comment.

Everdell submitted the letter shortly after the prosecutor asked Nathan to investigate the juror’s statement, and the prosecutor was found guilty of recruiting underage girls by Epstein.

Scotty David told Reuters https://www.reuters.com/article/people-ghislaine-maxwell/some-ghislaine-maxwell-jurors-initially-doubted-accusers-juror-says-idINL1N2TL076 he “passed” the juror questionnaire Before the trial, determine whether the future juror can judge Maxwell fairly.

He said he did not remember being asked about his experience of sexual abuse, and he would answer honestly.

The prosecutor said that the statement made by the jurors to the media was “worthy of the court’s attention,” and requested that the hearing be scheduled approximately one month later.

They also said that court staff should ask the jurors if he needs a lawyer. The media cited by the prosecutor included Reuters, Daily Mail and The Independent.

Maxwell, 60, was convicted on December 29 of sex trafficking and other charges for torturing Epstein recruiting and training underage girls between 1994 and 2004.

She will face up to 65 years in prison and is expected to appeal her conviction, followed by a one-month trial.

Epstein was a financier and convicted sex offender who committed suicide while awaiting trial for sex trafficking in a Manhattan jail in August 2019.
