Adnan Saeed in ‘continuous’ case to be released, conviction overturned

BALTIMORE — A Baltimore judge on Monday ordered the release of Adnan Syed after overturning his conviction in the 1999 Lee Hae-min murder — which was documented on the hit podcast “Series.”

Circuit Court Judge Melissa Finn ordered the quashing of Syed’s conviction and granted the release of Syed, 41, who has spent more than two decades in prison.

Syed, who has always maintained his innocence, received widespread attention when the first season of “Serial” focused on Lee’s killing in 2014 and questioned some of the evidence used by prosecutors, sparking numerous allegations of Syed’s innocence or guilt. table debate.

Prosecutors filed a motion last week saying a long-running investigation with the defense uncovered new evidence that could undermine the 2000 conviction of Lee’s ex-boyfriend Syed.
