NEW YORK — The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Friday that next year’s Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 13.
The date of the 95th Academy Awards ceremony was slightly earlier than this year, when the ceremony was held unusually late on March 27, in part because of the Olympic Games in February. But it will also leave behind an extended awards season, which some believe will undercut the Oscars in theater.

The 94th Academy Awards are not lacking in that, although that’s not the way the Academy wants to. On one night, Apple TV+’s “CODA” became the first film to feature a deaf actor and the first to come from a streaming service to win Best Picture, with host Chris Rock’s infamous slap for the award The ceremony was overshadowed.
Smith has since resigned from the Academy, which banned the actor from the Oscars for 10 years.
ABC will again air next year’s awards show.
